Conventional Clinical Thermometers

Oral, rectal and axillary contact thermometers grouped by measurement site so buyers can compare scale, range and intended method of use.

Basal Temperature Thermometer

A low-range thermometer for consistent basal body-temperature trend tracking and fertility-awareness charting.

Digital Contact Thermometer

The T15S provides electronic contact temperature measurement with an LCD display, memory and replaceable-battery operation.

Infrared Non-Contact Thermometer

The CONTEC TP500 provides forehead infrared temperature measurement with Celsius/Fahrenheit selection, memory and battery-powered operation.

Temperature Measurement Guide

Clinical, Digital & Infrared Thermometers by Measurement Method

IndoSurgicals offers six thermometer models covering conventional contact measurement, basal-temperature tracking, electronic contact measurement and non-contact forehead measurement. The most useful way to compare them is by measurement site, technology, range and the type of reading required.

The range includes oral, rectal and axillary clinical thermometers, a basal body-temperature thermometer, the T15S digital contact thermometer and the CONTEC TP500 infrared thermometer. Review the individual product page for the published specification and current instructions for the selected model.

Choose a Thermometer by Measurement Method

Conventional ClinicalPrismatic oral, rectal and oval axillary thermometers for direct contact measurement. Choose the model that matches the required measurement site and scale.
Basal TemperatureLow-range temperature tracking for basal body-temperature charting. Consistent timing and technique are important when comparing day-to-day trends.
Digital ContactThe T15S combines an LCD display, last-reading memory and replaceable-battery operation for routine contact temperature measurement.
Infrared Non-ContactThe CONTEC TP500 supports forehead infrared measurement with Celsius/Fahrenheit selection, memory and automatic shutdown.

Measurement Site Matters

Temperature values vary with measurement site and technique. Compare readings taken with the same method whenever possible and follow the instructions supplied with the selected thermometer.

MethodCurrent Listed ProductBest Fit
Oral contactPrismatic clinical thermometerTraditional oral body-temperature measurement using a dual-scale clinical format.
Rectal contactRectal clinical thermometerDedicated pear-bulb configuration for rectal measurement according to professional technique and hygiene practice.
Axillary contactOval clinical thermometerUnderarm temperature measurement with a conventional contact thermometer.
Basal temperatureBasal body-temperature thermometerConsistent resting-temperature trend tracking rather than one-off fever screening.
Digital contactT15S digital thermometerElectronic contact measurement with a clear display, memory and replaceable battery.
Infrared foreheadCONTEC TP500Rapid non-contact forehead measurement where direct skin contact is not preferred.

Published Range & Feature Comparison

ProductPublished Range / FeatureSelection Information
Clinical Mercury, Prismatic Dual Scale35-42°C; 94-108°F; dual scale; plastic casePublished accuracy ±0.1°C / ±0.2°F. Availability of mercury-containing devices can depend on destination and institutional requirements.
Rectal Clinical35-42°C; 95-108°F; pear-shaped bulb; dual scaleThe current catalogue does not state a numeric accuracy tolerance; request the current technical specification when that value is required.
Oval Axillary Clinical35-42°C; axillary format; °C / °F scale optionsThe published 0.1°C / 0.2°F figures describe the scale graduation; a separate tolerance should be taken from the current product specification.
Basal Body Temperature95-100°F; 0.1°F subdivisions; oral/sub-lingual and rectal useDesigned for basal-temperature trend charting. A sustained rise can help indicate that ovulation has occurred.
T15S Digital32-42°C / 89.6-109.4°F; 0.1° resolution; memory; replaceable batteryFor tenders requiring exact response time, accuracy, dimensions or battery-life figures, request the current technical sheet for the supplied model.
CONTEC TP500Non-contact infrared; °C/°F; color TFT LCD; 30 memory groups; two AAA batteriesThis page refers to the standard TP500. CONTEC also lists a TP500 LED variant, so match the quotation to the exact model designation required.

Resolution Is Not the Same as Accuracy

Resolution / Graduation

The smallest displayed or marked step on a thermometer scale. A 0.1°C display or scale increment does not by itself establish an accuracy of ±0.1°C.

Accuracy / Tolerance

The permitted difference from a reference temperature under stated test conditions. Where a tender requires a numeric tolerance, use the current verified specification for the exact model.

Mercury-Containing Thermometers

Mercury clinical thermometers remain a specialist product category with additional handling, transport, waste-management and destination-market considerations. Availability can vary by institutional policy and the applicable requirements for the destination.

For buyers who require a mercury-free option, the same category also includes digital contact and infrared non-contact thermometers.

Basal Temperature & Fertility-Awareness Tracking

Basal body temperature is recorded under consistent resting conditions, typically after waking and before normal activity. A sustained temperature rise can help indicate that ovulation has occurred. Illness, sleep disturbance, travel, medication and inconsistent measurement timing can influence the pattern.

BBT is most useful as a trend. It should not be treated as a stand-alone method for predicting ovulation in advance or as a guarantee of conception.

Cleaning, Infection Control & Shared Use

Reusable contact thermometers should be cleaned, disinfected and stored according to the instructions supplied with the product and the facility's infection-control policy. Rectal or other higher-risk contact use requires particularly careful hygiene practice.

Non-contact infrared measurement reduces direct device-to-skin contact but the thermometer still requires routine cleaning and correct handling of the sensor area.
