Frontal Radiation Protection Apron

IS IndoSurgicals® Frontal Protection Lead Apron

A frontal radiation-protection apron designed for healthcare professionals who primarily face the X-ray source during diagnostic or image-guided procedures. It combines selectable 0.35 mmPb or 0.50 mmPb front protection with adjustable criss-cross fastening, padded shoulders, a front dosimeter pocket and a PU-coated outer fabric for routine clinical handling.

Frontal Coverage for Procedures Where the Wearer Faces the X-Ray Source

The radiation-protection core is positioned over the front of the torso, extending from the upper body toward just above the knees according to wearer height and selected size. This makes the apron a practical option for personnel whose normal working position keeps the front of the body toward the radiation source.

Frontal Protection

Designed for occupational situations where front-side shielding is required and rear-body protection is not part of the selected PPE configuration.

When Full Protection May Be Preferable

Where staff turn away from the source, move around the room or require rear coverage, a full-protection or wraparound apron may be more appropriate.

Important: Select the apron style according to staff position, procedure type and the radiation-safety protocol approved by the healthcare facility.

The appropriate lead-equivalent rating depends on the actual procedure, expected scatter radiation, procedure duration, working distance, equipment settings and the protection policy approved by the hospital, radiation-safety officer or medical physicist.

0.35 mmPb Lead Equivalent

Available across all four core-material options. It may be selected where the facility protocol permits 0.35 mmPb protection and lower core weight is desirable.

0.50 mmPb Lead Equivalent

Provides a higher nominal lead-equivalent rating and is commonly selected where departmental protocols require 0.50 mmPb frontal protection.

Selection note: A higher nominal lead-equivalent rating also increases core weight. Protection level should be selected from the facility’s approved radiation-safety requirement rather than weight alone.

StPb® — Conventional Lead-Vinyl

Approximate core area density: 4.62 kg/m² at 0.35 mmPb and 6.60 kg/m² at 0.50 mmPb. A conventional lead-based option for cost-conscious procurement.

Help Protect the Apron from Avoidable Damage

Recommended Handling

Store flat or on a suitable radiation-apron hanger. Avoid folding, sharply creasing or placing heavy objects on the apron. Clean the outer surface using a compatible mild cleaning method and allow it to dry before storage.

Routine Inspection

Check the fabric, seams, straps and hook-and-loop closure regularly. Follow the facility schedule for imaging or integrity inspection and remove the apron from use if shielding-core damage is suspected.

It is a wearable X-ray protection garment with radiation-shielding material positioned mainly on the front of the body for working situations where the wearer normally faces the radiation source.
Does this apron protect the back of the wearer?
No. This model is a frontal-protection design. Where staff turn away from the source, move around the room or require rear coverage, a full-protection apron may be more appropriate.
Is 0.50 mmPb always better than 0.35 mmPb?
0.50 mmPb has a higher nominal lead-equivalent rating but also increases weight. The appropriate level should be selected according to the actual procedure, scatter conditions, working time and the safety protocol approved by the facility.
Are lead-free apron options available?
Yes. The apron can be ordered with NoPb®-LT, NoPb®-SL or NoPb®-BL lead-free core material. StPb® conventional lead-vinyl is also available.
Which material option has the lowest listed core area density?
Among the current listed options, NoPb®-SL has the lowest approximate core area density at both 0.35 mmPb and 0.50 mmPb. Finished garment weight still depends on size and all other apron components.
Which sizes are available?
The current range is XS, S, M, L, XL and XXL, with multiple colour options subject to order requirements.
