In a frontal protection lead-free apron, the radiation protection core is used on the front side of the apron. This design is suitable for users who mainly face the radiation source during medical procedures.
| Claimed Protection Level | Core Sheet Construction | Approx. Core Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 0.35 mmPb | 2 sheets of 0.175 mmPb | Approx. 4.29 kg/m² |
| 0.50 mmPb | 2 sheets of 0.25 mmPb | Approx. 6.00 kg/m² |
In a full-overlap full protection lead-free apron, front protection is achieved when both front panels overlap each other. The back panel is always made with one 0.25 mmPb sheet.
| Protection Level | Front Panel 1 | Front Panel 2 | Back Panel | Front Overlapped Area |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.35 mmPb | 0.175 mmPb, approx. 2.13 kg/m² | 0.175 mmPb, approx. 2.13 kg/m² | 0.25 mmPb, approx. 3.00–3.02 kg/m² | 0.35 mmPb |
| 0.50 mmPb | 0.25 mmPb, approx. 3.00–3.02 kg/m² | 0.25 mmPb, approx. 3.00–3.02 kg/m² | 0.25 mmPb, approx. 3.00–3.02 kg/m² | 0.50 mmPb |
In the Partial-Overlap Full Protection Lead-Free Apron, both front panels are made with the full claimed lead equivalent protection. This design provides full front-side protection on each panel, while the overlapped front portion provides additional shielding because both protective panels come together in the overlap area.
| Claimed Protection Level | Each Front Panel | Back Panel | Overlapped Front Area |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.35 mmPb | 0.35 mmPb, approx. 4.29 kg/m² per panel | 0.25 mmPb, approx. 3.00–3.02 kg/m² | Approx. 0.70 mmPb |
| 0.50 mmPb | 0.50 mmPb, approx. 6.00 kg/m² per panel | 0.25 mmPb, approx. 3.00–3.02 kg/m² | Approx. 1.00 mmPb |
In 0.35 mmPb partial-overlap aprons, each front panel is made with 0.35 mmPb lead equivalent protection. Therefore, wherever both front panels overlap, the combined protection becomes approximately 0.70 mmPb lead equivalent.
In 0.50 mmPb partial-overlap aprons, each front panel is made with 0.50 mmPb lead equivalent protection. Therefore, wherever both front panels overlap, the combined protection becomes approximately 1.00 mmPb lead equivalent.
The back panel is always 0.25 mmPb lead equivalent in both 0.35 mmPb and 0.50 mmPb partial-overlap full protection apron designs.
